Energies of Excited States of Doubly Ionized Molecules by Means of Auger Electron Spectroscopy

چکیده
A new method, Auger electron spectroscopy, is applied to the study of excited states of doubly ionized molecules. The energies of Auger electrons determine directly the vertical energies of doubly ionized states, because the single Auger process leaves the molecule in a state of double ionization. We have investigated the states of N22+ via the K Auger spectrum of N2 • The ionization in the K shell was caused by electron impact. The K Auger electrons, analyzed by means of an electrostatic cylindrical mirror analyzer, gave direct evidence for the following states: x A" 3 2 V , A 3 /7g , c 177g, d and e Their energies have been measured and are listed below. Also the energy required to ionize N2 twofold in the (og 2s) orbital has been determined to be (96.5 + 1.0) eV. Due to the instrumental half width of about 0.6 eV no vibrational structure could be detected.

Calculations of energies of intrashell doubly excited states of beryllium-like ions
Energy levels of doubly excited states of beryllium-like ions are calculated using the conventional configuration-interaction method. The interactions of the two outer electrons with the inert ls2 core electrons are represented by a model potential. The resulting energies of ls23/3[’ and 1s24/4/’ doubly excited states, designated in terms of the K, T and A correlation quantum numbers, are used ...
متن کاملA method to characterize electronic states of 4s ionized Rb by combined laser and synchrotron spectroscopy
Photoelectron studies of laser-excited atomic states can reveal more information about the final ionic states than ground-state photoemission. The possibility to tune the laser to distinct fine-structure sub-states of the excited states allows to select specific angular-momentum couplings of the valence electron that are conserved during photoemission. In the 4s photoemission of laser-excited r...
متن کاملNew insight into the Auger decay process in O2: the coincidence perspective
Photoelectron-Auger electron coincidence spectroscopy is a powerful tool for the investigation of Auger decay processes with different core-ionized intermediate states. In this paper we describe an investigation into the Auger decay of the O2 molecule, with the purpose of bringing new insight into the dynamics of the core hole decay mechanism. Using a novel experimental approach to measuring su...

The K-VV Auger spectrum of carbon monoxide (CO) excited by C 1s photoionization has been investigated with a novel electron-electron coincidence setup. The energy resolution is sufficiently high to resolve the vibrational energy levels of the core-ionized intermediate state and of most dicationic final states in the two-dimensional electron energy map. We demonstrate how the influence of vibrat...

Recently, a computational technique for ab initio calculation of the interatomic and intermolecular nonradiative decay processes has been developed [V. Averbukh and L. S. Cederbaum, J. Chem. Phys. 123, 204107 (2005)]. It combines the Fano formalism with the Green's function method known as the algebraic diagrammatic construction. The problem of normalization of continuum wave functions stemming...
